It's a Manly Book!

I'm wondering where the men are in my Bible Study class. At most we'll have two. I wonder why more men don't come to Bible Study. There are lots of men in the Bible. I'm pretty sure the Bible was written by men. Jesus was a man. I think God is male. There are wars, natural disasters, and construction of large structures in the Bible with men traveling here and there. Men are confronting other men  Men are leading people around and standing up against danger and wrong doing. It's a very manly book!

Do I have any male readers who care to give their perspective on this topic?

I realize I have a very feminine looking blog, but that's because I enjoy being feminine.

It's the Feast of Corpus Christi today.

My Special Day, My First Communion

On this day in 1973 I made my First Holy Communion. I like to remember my most important anniversary. The Mass was at 2:00 pm, and my godmother called me earlier that day to congratulate me because she lived several states away. My godfather and his family, more friends, and relatives came to my First Communion Mass and to my home to celebrate afterwards.

We second graders lined up by height, and I was second. The entrance song was "Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing . . .. ."

My mother made my communion dress out of the train of her wedding dress. The sleeves were bells sleeves like the angels wore. I thought I had the prettiest dress and felt sorry for the girls who were wearing store bought dresses.

We each had a paper red heart with our first name pinned to our chest so Fr. Morris would say our name when he said, "Body of Christ."

From then on, I started counting the number of times I went to Communion because each time was very exciting. I eventually lost track though.

I am happy to report that my parents remained happily married till my mom's death six years ago. Both of my godparents are still alive, and we keep in touch. The street in front of that church is named Rev. Morris Blvd. Now I am a communion minister and still find it exciting to receiving the body and blood of Christ.

Jesus Left at the Altar

On Sunday when I went to Communion there was no Communion minister offering the cup on my side of the church. The other line to Communion for the other side of the church had a minister offering the cup. I felt cheated even though I know the Host is complete in itself. Then when the lines had dwindled down to just a few people, I noticed that a chalice was left on the altar because there was no Communion minister to take the Chalice and serve it. I felt bad. I am a Communion minister. I could have stepped up to the table and served. However, I did not notice that this Mass was short one minister. I need to pay attention on how many ministers there should be serving at each Mass. Then I need to step forward when necessary. The priest and other communion ministers sure had to consume a lot of leftover wine.

Poor Jesus was left alone on the altar. Like a wallflower at a school dance. Like a bride left at the altar. Ouch. Let's not leave Jesus alone. He wants to be with His people. We are his people.

Why I go to Church

One reason I attend Mass is to reset my priorities. It helps to be in a place where status, money, accomplishments and consumer goods do not matter.

I attend Mass to be in a community that is larger than myself.

The last time I served Communion I had a sense of community and really being part of the Body of Christ.
